“(Our kids) had a fantastic, highly educational experience at camp…Their adventure has brought with it a lot of positive changes, some that are readily apparent (such as a healthy physical ‘glow’, an increased sense of confidence, more self-reliance), and others that are less so (such as an improved firsthand appreciation of each other’s respective strengths, and ‘usefulness’)…We were sent a booklet/photo album that we’ll always treasure, in addition to some ‘assessments/observations’ by camp instructors that (we) could not help but be impressed with (one would think that the various instructors were intimately connected with what goes on in our kids’ minds; tis a bit mind boggling, considering that two weeks can be a relatively short time to get to know a person…) Sending our kids to camp was, for us, a great leap of faith: we live halfway around the world, in Ghana, and therefore had to rely, up to a point, on second-hand information and instinct…We’re happy to say it has paid off! Blue Compass has an amazing thing going on; we can’t begin to imagine what it must take to successfully undertake such an enterprise…Our heartfelt thanks to the team!

“It’s given us a sense that he can suceed given some difficult tasks without us hovering over him and he’s made us very proud.”

“My son attended camp with Blue Compass several years in a row! Just wanting to go back year after year is a testimonial in itself! He came back with great confidence and super team building skills.”

“(My grandson) enjoyed the activities such as the camp fire, beach combing, making fire sticks and especially making friends with other kids his age that were just like him!! On at least one of the camping trips he took on a little bit of a leadership role which REALLY helped with his self confidence. He has gone on 3 camp outs 2 weekend ones and one week long one. He looks forward to the camps every year and this year he’s is thinking about repeating the week-long camp out because he had such a great time last year.”

“(Our son) asked repeatedly to go on a wilderness camping trip, but finding a camp that was an appropriate fit proved challenging. Then we learned of Blue Compass Camps. With excitement (and a leap of faith on our part!) (our son) flew across the country to participate in the NW Expedition in the summer of 2010. We are so very grateful to Peter and the staff at Blue Compass Camps for meeting every expectation that (our son) had for a “real” backpacking/wilderness experience. It was apparent that the counselors truly understood and appreciated him, focusing on his strengths and gifts. It was an amazing adventure and he’ll be back in 2011!”

“Our son is extremely shy, often has difficulty adjusting to new situations, and usually is loath to exert himself physically. Nonetheless, under the tutelage of two skilled, supportive, and energetic counselors, he quickly found himself making fast friends with a small group of kids, kayaking long distances among the beautiful San Juan Islands, and generally having the time of this life. This week-long adventure – truly one of the highlights of his fifteenth year – taught him self-reliance, and physical and emotional courage, in a controlled, safe, and supportive setting. To quote our son’s first word to me when I picked him up at the airport, ‘Awesome!’”
